The design of Casa PM is deeply rooted in its natural environment. The designers took inspiration from the site's existing trees, respecting and incorporating them into the design to create natural shade and ventilation. This respect for the natural environment is further reflected in the material palette, which contrasts natural elements such as plants, rocks, and wood with concrete, steel, and glass.
The house is divided into three sections: the garage, service area, and residential area. These are connected by a network of ramps and steps that wind through gardens and loose walls, creating a sense of openness and fluidity. The design plays with simple geometry, with spaces completely open to the exterior, allowing the natural environment to be incorporated into each space.
The project was realized using a combination of concrete, steel, wood, and glass. The designers faced the open spaces to the North, to receive fresh winds and perfect natural illumination, without gaining heat inside the house, thus generating cool breezes. This careful consideration of the site's natural characteristics demonstrates a thoughtful approach to sustainable design.
The project was not without its challenges. The designers had to carefully zone the project to preserve as many trees as possible. As a result of the existing trees' location, the project was divided into three stages, linked by ramps, steps, and loose walls, going through the local landscape's private gardens.
Despite these challenges, Casa PM has been recognized for its innovative design. It was awarded Silver in the A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award in 2018. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation, and Casa PM certainly fits the bill. With its tranquil, peaceful atmosphere, and its harmonious blend of architecture and nature, it is a residential design that truly stands out.
